I have a question about Kiddie Kandids photos?
We had our daughters photos done at Kiddie Kandids a few months ago. We bought one of the bigger packages that had the black and white photos with the black wooden frames. We have been working on our house and never took the photos out of the packaging until today as we are ready to hang them. I was shocked when i opened them and there is NO GLASS!!! My question is has anyone bought one of these packages and the frames do NOT have glass? The company is now bankrupt and i don’t know what to do. I’m just trying to find out if that is how it was intended. I’m so disappointed there is nothing there to protect the photos….
Before we went i already had my mind made up what package we were going to get. When I saw the samples on the wall i thought they looked sooo cute and had to have them. I can’t imagine wanting them if they didn’t come with glass. It’s so stupid. I think I am just going to take them to Hobby Lobby and see if they can take it apart and cut the glass. I just didn’t know if this is how they were supposed to come. I would not have bought them had i known they didn’t have glass. It just makes them look so cheap.
You used to find Kiddie Kandids at the mall or in Babies R Us

I have never heard of that company before, but I do not think that they should have come without glass. I have never seen that.
I bought a large package from The Picture People that included several black and white pictures in black frames, and they all had the glass in them.
If there is no way to get ahold of the company, you should be able to get some glass cut fairly cheap from a glass company.
Open Mouth Insert Boob | Feb 07, 2010

You caan easily get glass to put into the frames…big hardwares will cut it to size…but it may be simpler to buy new frames! It sounds to me as if they were just a rip off type of compaany and those never last.
Daisyhill | Feb 07, 2010

We had photos done there but just got pictures (not framed) and bought the CD of the pictures. We bought our own frames.

Guess you will just have to go buy a frame.

They sell a ton of frames at Bed Bath and Beyond, just use one of their 20% off coupons, they aren’t too expensive.
Artie Lange Fan | Feb 07, 2010

i used to work there, and I always wondered why they didn’t come with glass. I thought it was stupid too, but they didn’t come with them. A framing shop can do it for you, or if its a standard size, like 16×20 or 20×24 you can just buy a new frame.

I disagree with a gymnastic coach – who's right (ref: splits for 6 year old girl)?
Just over a year ago my daughter attended a local gymnastics club and was in the squad from age 4-5 as she had a natural ability. When she was 5 she started to get upset because she was being forced down into the splits and it really hurt her. One time she couldn’t walk properly for a few days where she was over stretched. After speaking to the club after the first 2 times, I was furious when it happened a 3rd time and I pulled her out + had serious words with the club and told them it was tantamount to child abuse. I did gymnastics as a child and was never "pushed down".

Just as I was pulling my daughter out, her best friend then age 5 started training – and was also on a fast track. She recently just tried out for the squad and the training pace has been stepped up. She’s now 6. Last week she started crying and didn’t want to go to gymnastics. She said that her coach is pushing her down in the splits and she didn’t like it. Her mum will see how it goes and pull her out if she doesn’t want to go anymore but she did speak to the Gymnastics Club who told that that children need to be pushed as the body won’t do it naturally. Since the mum has never done gymnastics before she’s not sure what to believe.

However, I think the opposite. I did gymnastics as a child and my thoughts on the splits are this:-

Training for the splits should stretch you to the point of being uncomfortable but not be unbearable pain and then you should stop at that point. Continual practice will gradually see the point of discomfort change until eventually she will be able to do the splits. Ideally her daughter should be controlling the splits and her comfort zone – and doing it little but often. However I baulk at a coach (not sure if they are a trained "coach" or another gymnast who is helping teach the younger children) PUSHING a child down and hurting them. To my mind the coach should be saying "tell me when it hurts"…"can you go a bit further?"…."stop if it hurts too much"…."hold"….now come up.

Speaking to my sister who is an osteopath, I’m also given to understand that a 6 year olds body is more pliable and the ligaments aren’t fully formed – so there is a potential for injury (life long in some cases) if the child is continually forced/overstretched into the splits. .

I told the mother I’d come on here and ask the community to find out "Who is right?"

I think you are wise to remove your daughter from this gym. Voicing your concerns to the coach isn’t going to help. To them, you are just an over-protective parent. Voicing them to the gym owner might help, but it’s unlikely. Object with your money. That message is heard loud and clear everytime.

Weather you think your right or not doesn’t really matter. You are uncomfortable with the method, and your daughter doesn’t want to attend this gym because of it. That’s more then plenty of reason to switch gyms.

Gymnastics isn’t viewed as a "sport" for young children. It’s just recreation with a purpose. If the gym coaches remove the fun and enjoyment for the sake of advancement – it’s pointless to attend. Personally I loath coaches that over-work young kids, and there are a lot of coaches that do. Gymnastics should be a fun and happy memory. It shouldn’t be a memory of pain. Especially unnessesary pain.

Now to your question:
Coach assisted static stretches were once a very common practice. It’s still a method used by eastern countries (China) where the opinions and feelings of young athletes are basically ignored. The method has been backed away from in many other countries. Few gyms in the US still use this method anymore as it could indeed be painful to the athlete and expensive if the athlete needs medical attention. Liability is also a major and costly concern.

This doesn’t mean coaches can’t adjust an athletes form – we do all the time. If we add any pressure, it’s minimal and consistant. It’s very slowly and deliberately applied. I think I can count on one hand how many athletes actually told me to stop in all my years of coaching. The pressure applied just isn’t that much. Nothing like is seen in many of the gymnastic "horror stories" videos, which show children in tears. As If tears aren’t enough…

Only muscles stretch. Ligaments and connective tissue do not – and should not. Only the athlete can tell how much is too much. No coach, no matter how trained or experienced, can determine the appropriate overforce for any athlete of any age. This does risk injury.

Your sister is partially correct. Young children are very pliable and they will stretch longer/wider. But this is without too much fear of any permanent damage. Children are naturally very bendy. Especially if they have been busy and thier muscles are warm and tired. For many children, the level of tolerance to pressure is quite low. What they call ‘painful’ is more often just ‘uncomforable’, and anything past this is more shock then real pain. But this doesn’t answer the concern about "real" pain! How much is too much? Again, only the athlete can answer this question. A coach doesn’t "know". They are simply guessing. It’s gambling without fear.

In my opinion, the old saying "no pain, no gain" is stupid, and physiologically flawed. If there is pain — there is something wrong. the result is NO gain. Making pain something every athlete wants to avoid.

Coach Alice ATC/PT | Jan 26, 2010

that sounds evil tell someone who is experienced (ask at another gymnastics club) if they say its bad report the club.
Alfie | Jan 26, 2010

its obvious to me that the club she is attending gymnastics, is extremely competitive, I have been doing gymnastics for 10 years and splits should only be stretched to the point that you are uncomfortable, not to the point where you are basically breaking legs, i would also have your daughter checked out by the doctor, cause my friend permanately damaged tissues in that area because of over stretching spilts, its very dangerous and should not be practiced the way they are making those little girls do them. definately try to find a new gym in your area, and if not, make sure she stretches on her own at home, and refuse to stretch them at gymnastics. no matter what.
scared and confused | Jan 26, 2010

forcing anyone, especially children, because their bodies aren’t completely developed to bend in ways that they can’t.
to be practicing their splits, they should be stretching until they can do them.
not being forced to do them without stretching.
they will have bad pulled muscles and could result in a lifetime problem.

to correctly stretch for splits, they should hold until it hurts for ten seconds then shake it off, and try again.
Sami | Jan 26, 2010

I’d have to agree that you should take it gradually. I don’t think they should force her down like that.

Is it alright to send a thank-you note to an interviewer through e-mail?
I had an interview at a bridal store for an entry-level assistant position today, and it was pretty informal. All of hour communication so far has been through e-mail, and for the "interivew" we just stood around talked for a bit. I’ve sent hand-written notes before, but I fear that sending on this time won’t make it in time.

She told me she liked me a lot, and that I was perfect for the job, but she had to honor the other interviewees and meet with them before she made a decision. Any help is appreciated, thank you!

Yes, email thank you’s are absolutely acceptable these days. While it is nice to do hand-written notes, employers have adapted quite well to the electronic communication methods.

Good luck on the job!

Bridges of Madison County, The (1995)

IMDB rating: 7.00

Plot: The path of Francesca Johnson’s future seems destined when an unexpected fork in the road causes her to question everything she had come to expect from life. While her husband and children are away at the Iowa state fair in the Summer of 1965, Robert Kincaid happens upon the Johnson farm and asks Francesca for directions to Rosamunde Bridge. He explains that he is on assignment from National Geographic magazine to photograph the bridges of Madison County. She agrees to show him to the bridges and thus begins the bittersweet and all-too-brief romance of her life. Through the pain of separation from her secret love and the stark isolation she feels as the details of her life consume her, she writes down the story of this four-day love affair in a 3-volume diary. The diary is found by her children among her possessions and alongside Robert Kincaid’s possessions after Francesca is dead. The message they take from the diaries is one of hope that they will do what is necessary to find happiness in their lives — whatever is necessary. After learning that Robert Kincaid’s cremated remains were scattered off Rosamunde Bridge and that their mother requested a similar disposition for her own ashes, the children must decide whether to honor their mother’s final wishes or bury her alongside their father as the family had planned. Adapted from the novel by Robert Waller, this is the story of love that happens just once in a lifetime — if you’re lucky.

Your favorite book of all time and why ?
Mine is Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
I love the inspiration, strength and motivation Truman Capote can give me through Holly Golightly :)

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.
I love the idea of a couple thats not "perfect for each other" and hits it off right away, and really cliche like a lot of other books. The charactersare constantly making mistakes, yet in the end, they wind up together.
It also teaches us that first impressions are not always best. It was a wonderful read.

I have about 80 but I obviously don’t read the same genre of books are yourself =[. I haven’t been able to get passed Sarah Dessen/Young Adult books. I did, however, like To Kill A Mockingbird and Animal Farm not that those are really the same thing either. I’d have to go for either The Nature of Jade by Deb Caletti, any book by Sarah Dessen, or Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta.

i guess my favorite books for adults are anything by Stephen King, or Water for Elephants by Sarah Gruen. both of those authors just have such original ideas and unique, descriptive writing styles.

Hmm I have a lot but probably the noughts and crosses series by Malorie Blackman because it is so tragic it is sometimes distressing sometimes and sometimes heartrendingly sad. It is about discrimination and injustice and brutal violence but it is also a love story. It is about Sephy who is a cross (one of the ruling class, dark skinned) and Callum a nought ( light skinned and were once slaves to the crosses) they have been friends since they were little and there feelings for each other are becoming stronger, but how can they love one another in a world so full of hatred? what is your stance on graffiti?
after all this is rHH. people treat it like just the music and the rapping are important (albeit understandably because the music is the most prevalent part of hh).

i dont do graffiti but i think it is damn nice when done with skill. i see it often but plain scrawled tags are nothing special and vandalous (not sure thats a word). real murals are dope. and when its done on delivery trucks and the subway (nyc). it is illegal but if there was an output for it and the city endorsed it on empty walls it would be better.

thats what i think. what about you? looking at the name "rap and hip hop" for this section made me think of asking this. plenty of great graffiti art all over the world. look online. also, krs did it with fat joe way back.

bq1: name 5 has-been rappers that went from raw to sellout pop hacks (no order).
fat joe. snoop. jay z. common. eminem.

bq2: do you consider nas a sellout? everyone sells out a little when they get the recognition (not just the guys above), but on a scale one to ten how much os nas a sellout? i say a three.

bq3: name a few rappers that have gone to college (graduated or not). some that come to mind are ice cube, chubb rock (in fact he went to brown), lotug (thats how they met), camron (belongs with bq1, he played bball in college actually), mos def (arts school if im not mistaken).

bq4: this is a random question. what race are you? i asked this in rhh almost a year ago as its own question but it got deleted. weird. race has always interested me. personally im iranian.

bq5: last one i promise. sorry i carried on like this. name some rock or metal groups that you know that cover rhh songs or work with rhh acts or are openly fans. i can think of buckethead, system of a down (wu tang for both), rhcp (john fruiscante worked with rza and wu and nasa), korn, aerosmith, kirk hammet (knaan, random or what, still metallica is my favorite music besides hh).

thanks for reading this far if you stuck through. happy hunting and good night.
why cant i answer my own question? im looking for other peoples opinions and i cant supply that on my own. and im sorry but common, to go from can i borrow a dollar (MY favorite common album) and resurrection to jonas brothers is really pushing it.

q1:, snoop dogg, kanye, cant think of any others
2: nah nas isnt so much of a sell out on the scale of sellouts :P , sometimes you go to sacrifice alternative status for popularity
3. all i know of is mos def
4. im european
5. there was some rock band that did a cover of beyonce but i dont think that counts LOL
